under stormy skies

The storm clouds seem to be a permanent fixture in our days lately. We have mornings of sunshine followed by dark afternoons full of thunder, lightning, wind and flickering appliances. The grass and flowers are loving the arrangement and I must say, I don't mind it so much myself (that is, if the storm waits to break after I have unloaded kids and groceries from the car). While thunder growled in the distance this morning, I took a few pictures of the goings on in the yard. The fence line is bursting with color; blue Salvia has taken over the front flower bed; the sunflower Tristan started in a Dixie cup at school is over six feet and blooming; and the Crepe Myrtle trees are like garden fireworks.
All this and I haven't had to do the watering for more than two weeks. Yes, I'd say we are loving this arrangement.

  1. Absolutely beautiful, Kelli. Enjoy the thunderstorms and clouds. We've had zero rain and 40+ days of triple diget temperatures. It's the hottest July on record if that tells you anything. Come on November/December!

  2. We are enjoying the thunderstorms too, although we have to wade through the grass in our yard, its so long. :) When I planted my garden I realized that it gets watered every other day by the sprinkler system. I was pretty excited about that arrangement too. Your flowers (and Tristan's) are beautiful.

  4. Oh no, Lisa! I wish I could give you some of my tomatoes. Send me a picture of your flowers though!

Laura, I really hope we can come out and see your garden before it is frozen this winter. It has been seriously too long since we saw you guys...a year? Has it been a whole year??

Katherine, I think of all you guys in Texas a lot! It seems unfair that we've had such a rainy, cool summer while you've had the total opposite -wish we could send some of this your way.

  5. I love your yard! One of my favorite parts about thunderstorms is how they makes greens (and really all colors) look more vibrant. I don't know what it is, but trees and flowers just look even more beautiful after a nice rain.
