birthday hats

A year ago, I made a tiny hat out of this gorgeous hand-painted wool (a splurge at the local yarn shop). I made at least one other newborn hat with it that I can remember (for another baby Kate) but the remainder has been jumbled in my yarn stash waiting for a special purpose ever since. The night before Kate's first birthday I suddenly decided I'd found a good use for it -a princess crown! She got to wear it on her special day which tells you how quick and easy the pattern is. It is edged in the same white wool from her bunny and bear and looks adorable during the moments when she actually keeps it on her head!

  1. Wow - what a wonderful, full circle gift. That really is BIRTH-day yarn. Maybe one day Kate's own baby girl will wear them??

  3. Love the birthday hats! You made a blue one for Josiah's birthday right? He was so cute in it! :)

  4. Precious, just precious! I will always treasure that hat you made for that other little Kate. Precious ideas and a precious friend. Thanks, Kelli, and Happy Birthday, Kate!
