lizard friends

lizard friends
My kids are desperate for pets. "When we will get another dog" is a daily discussion in our house (that always ends with no promises.) So for now, they are happy to care for the army of lizards inhabiting our back yard. They catch them, name them, keep them for a day or two, release them, and then re-catch them (because for some reason these little guys actually stick around even after being carried in the fist of a five-year-old for days on end!) Last week they were all shedding their skin (look close at the one below), and lately they are tiny so I think it's the new babies coming out to play. It's going to be one long lizard-filled summer here in Florida.

  1. What a mom! I dislike lizards so much I'd be getting another dog QUICK! What happened to your dog? Did I miss something?

    1. I don't mind the lizards so much anymore -it's the lizard hands that come into my kitchen or sit down at the table to eat that really get me -yuck! the kids went through a whole bottle of hand soap last week though so I think they got the hint:)
our sweet old dog, Maverick, died two years ago! we miss him and sometimes I'm tempted to give in but mostly it's been nice to not have the hair or the holes in the yard or the kennel bills after vacations. some day though...

  2. Fond memories!...must be because their granddad chased lizards all over grandmother Geye's yard in Lamkin, Texas, each summer back in the 50's. We, Travis and cousin Terry Geye would often grab them and find that we missed the lizard but retained the tail!....these were long, green stripped lizards that would reach about 12inches in length ---often would dig into their underground holes and find their eggs as well :)...:) so enjoy young children cause you know how to have fun!!

  4. Fun! When we were in Florida last summer it was Keadryn's favorite thing...and both Drew and I have memories of catching lizards while on vacation in Florida. :) Great pictures!
