a November giveaway!

 dahlia among zinnniasdahlia
As soon as the first frosty nights begin draining color from the flowerbeds, I start thinking about my plans for the next season. I can't help it. As I'm collecting seeds from dried plants and pulling worm-eaten vines from porch railings, I'm imagining what new things I might try to grow or what colors I'd like to see more of. Every year I find some of my flowers didn't bloom as well as I'd hoped or expected while other plants never cease to surprise me -like these amazing Dahlias and those porch-eating Morning Glories. Then there are my no-fail, always faithful favorites -the Amaranths. They pop up in every bed and flower pot whether I put them there or not and they grow no matter how much I neglect them (not that I mean to). I love these little flowers. I love the way they bloom so bright all summer long and then slowly fade into a crunchy ball of seeds perfect for plucking and saving -or sharing.

Which is what I plan to do! Are you interested? I have Purple Globe Amaranth seeds collected and waiting to be sent to two Zinnia Patch readers. Just leave a comment on this post and tell me if you have a favorite flower in your garden. I could use some ideas for next year and if you're lucky, you can add some purple into your plan!
Comments will be closed and winner announced on Friday.

  1. hmmm...I don't have a garden at my house, but at my grandpa's house with his massive and beautiful garden I always love the peonies! They smell so great and look amazing. We are planning on doing a flower bed in front and a veggie garden in the back, maybe this is just the thing to get it started! :)

  2. Oh so much fun, what a marvelous idea! My fave in our garden at the moment is the most delicate little fern, a maiden hair. It's so green and happy and floats on the breeze. I could watch it for hours.

  4. My perennial favorites are my agapanthus, or Lily of the Niles. Ryan jokes that I would like to have ONLY those in my flowerbeds - which could happen, because they're getting HUGE! I wish they bloomed more than just once a year, because their happy heads full of lavender trumpet-like blooms are so fun.

  5. I don't think I can pick a favorite. Lately the Cannas have begun to fade and I will miss them because the remind me of home. One of my current favorites is a plant new to my garden. A Malabar spinach. It has beautiful green leaves on a vibrant purple vine. It blooms with little berries that produce a red stain when squished (good for finger painting). It is a very fun plant!

  6. I used to have Purple Globe Amaranth in Texas. I liked they the flowers dried so well.

I love all flowers honestly, but I especially liked the pretty tulips and lilies in my yard.

  8. My garden is looking rather sad these days. However, my favorite flower that I wish was growing in it right now is a gaillardia. Maybe next season!

  11. We don't really have a garden....just a few random flower beds in our back and front yards. I'd have to say my favorites are the hibiscus tree and gardenia bush, both in our backyard. So would these purple globes grow okay in the Texas heat?? We have a few bare spaces where other flowers have died, and I don't really know where to start!

  12. Alliums, Ferns, and Hostas are my favorites....Love the big globes of purple and lacey japanese painted ferns! Loving your blog I love gardening but have to battle the shade and deer here. I also love photography but would never call myself a photographer. You have a gift for photography...your pictures are beautiful and thought provoking. Hope you are having a blessed week.
